Glaucoma – is a group of disorders of different nature which are often associated with elevated intraocular pressure, poor retinal and optic nerve blood flow. It causes gradual damage of the optic nerve fibers and a partial alteration in the field of vision (scotoma). At the terminal stage full blindness and optic nerve atrophy are developed.
Glaucoma is especially dangerous because even at later stages of the disease the visual acuity is still high and detection of the disease happens accidentally when the other eye is closed.
